Switch to Generic Lipitor

As we discussed at the HR Seminar, we are implementing a strategy designed to help members select the most effective and affordable prescription medications available.

Atorvastatin, a new generic drug for the brand name Lipitor, was recently added to the Trust’s drug list/formulary. Our goal is to encourage all members currently taking Lipitor to switch to Atorvastatin. This generic alternative costs less and is just as safe and effective as Lipitor.

Beginning May 1, 2012, the Trust pharmacy benefit will automatically cover Atorvastatin and will only cover Lipitor through its step therapy program.

Step therapy is a process whereby prescriptions are filled with an effective, but more affordable medication (Step 1). When appropriate, a more costly (Step 2) medication can be authorized by a physician if the Step 1 prescription is not suitable in treating the condition.

Letters explaining this change have been sent out to all members that currently have a prescription for Lipitor.

For members using home delivery, Express Scripts will continue to dispense Lipitor from its home delivery pharmacy using the standard house generics program. However, in July Express Scripts will begin to dispense generic Atorvastatin from its home delivery pharmacy. At this time, prescriptions for brand name Lipitor will require step therapy depending on the member’s pharmacy benefits.

Principal Claims Office Move

For a variety of reasons, there is often a delay between when medical claims are incurred and when they are paid. You should note that claims incurred prior to the transition to Anthem (prior to 5/1/2011), are still being processed and paid by Principal.

Although the number of these “run-out” claims continues to decline, we wanted to let you know that Principal will soon transition Trust claims payments to its Springfield, IL office. Click here to access a pdf document with the contact information for this new office. We recommend that you share this with your employees.

We would also like to take this opportunity to thank Dorothee Gunlach for her work as the Trust’s claims examiner over the past 17 years. Dorothy has done a wonderful job of serving the Trust and its members. Her last day with Principal will be February 17th.

Please contact Carol Jobe if you have any questions.

Enhanced Wellness Program

Sets the Stage for Better Health for Employees,
Reduced Healthcare Costs for Employers

We Need Your Feedback – Please complete our survey by February 3rd!
The link at the bottom of this post will take you to a short, 5 question survey about wellness.

IBA Group Insurance Trust is introducing an enhanced wellness program for members in Spring 2012. The program will be administered by Strategic Health Services (SHS) of Crown Point, IN.

The program is called My Pathway to HealthTM and it includes personal health coaching, screenings, support programs, education and tools to help employees better manage health conditions and lifestyle concerns.

Representatives of Strategic Health Services, along with Capstone Benefits Group, will be presenting the new program at the March 19 Benefit Seminar in Indianapolis.

Focus on health – and a healthy bottom line

The new program is results focused. Strategic Health Services calls its program Health Trend Management, rather than a wellness program, because the goal is to turn the tide on employee illness and the costs employers incur as a result.

Health screenings will continue to be an important part of our wellness program, and you will be contacted about scheduling your screenings for the coming year.

The My Pathway to Health program will broaden the reach of health coaching in our member companies. Effective health coaching provides proven benefits for helping employees make the behavioral changes that lead to long-term health improvements.

An incentive program will also be announced at the March 19 meeting, introducing rewards to members for actively participating in the program – doing their part to improve their health, reduce their health-related costs and those of their employer.

Strategic Health Services has an experienced team of health care professionals who specialize in lifestyle, wellness and health improvement programs. IBA Group Insurance Trust members will hear much more on March 19 about the special tools and services SHS will provide. The attendees will receive a full communications package they can use to introduce the program to employees.

We think you will be impressed with the new program and its results focus. Look for more information soon on My Pathway to Health.

Anthem Announces: Outbound call campaign planned for members who use Walgreens post 1/1/2012

Effective January 1, 2012, Walgreens and its sister stores Duane Reade’s, Happy Harry’s or Option Care are no longer in-network. In an effort to minimize network disruption, we deployed numerous communications across all lines of business over the last two months. To further assist our members who may be experiencing network disruption, we are implementing an automated outbound call campaign. There are three scenarios this campaign is designed to support:

  • Members who visit a Walgreens on or after January 1, 2012, and the pharmacist enters a claim into the system and the claim is rejected (reason: Walgreens no longer in-network).
  • Members who use Walgreens, are on maintenance medication(s) and are approaching their refill date.
  • Members who use Walgreens, are on maintenance medication(s) and missed their refill window.

The automated outbound call script is designed to help the member transfer their script to an in-network pharmacy and avoid disruption. We will run this campaign through the month of February.

Walgreens to leave network January 1, 2012

In previous communications, we explained that Walgreens and Express Scripts were having difficulty in agreeing to a new contract after their current contract expires on December 31, 2011. Express Scripts is the company that manages the drug store network for your health plan.

Despite ongoing talks, it appears the two parties will not reach an agreement before the end of the year, and Walgreens will leave the network on January 1, 2012. Walgreens’ sister stores (such as Duane Reade, OptionCare and Happy Harry’s) will also leave at that time.

Please remember that your plan participants will still be able to use any of the other 56,000 network drug stores across the country, including:

  • CVS
  • Rite Aid
  • Kroger
  • Target
  • Wal‐Mart
  • Many local and independent stores

On average, there is a network store within a half‐mile of a Walgreens – sometimes, even closer.

Anthem will mail a letter to participants in the next several days notifying them of this change. This letter will remind participants to act soon to transfer their prescriptions as needed.

If you would like to notify your participants sooner, click here to download a copy of this letter.

You and your participants can use the Anthem website at anthem.com and use the “Find a Doctor” feature to find a network drug store near you.  You can also contact Anthem directly using the number on the back of your member ID card.
